What to Expect During a Roof Replacement

If you have never had a roof replaced before, the process can feel like a lot. This is what to expect when you hire us for a full residential re-roof.

Before we start.

We do a thorough inspection and give you a detailed quote. No surprises. We will tell you exactly what we are doing, what materials we are using, and how long it will take. Most residential roofs take one to three days depending on size and complexity. We will schedule a date that works for you and confirm the weather looks good.

Day one: tear-off.

We strip the old shingles and underlayment down to the roof deck. This is the loud, messy part. We lay tarps around the house to catch debris and we bring a dumpster for disposal. Once the old roofing is off, we inspect the decking for rot or damage. If we find any, we replace it before going further.

Underlayment and protection.

We install ice and water shield at the eaves, in valleys, and around all penetrations. Then we lay synthetic underlayment across the rest of the deck. This is your secondary layer of protection against wind-driven rain.

Shingle installation.

We install the starter strip, then work our way up the roof with your chosen shingles. Flashing goes around chimneys, vents, skylights, and wall transitions. Ridge cap shingles finish the top. Every detail matters, and this is where experience shows.

Cleanup.

We do a full cleanup every day, including a magnetic sweep of the yard and driveway to catch any stray nails. When we leave on the last day, the only evidence of the job should be a great-looking new roof.

After the job.

We walk through the completed work with you, answer any questions, and go over your warranty information. We take photos of the finished roof for your records and ours.
